Twenty-five of us participated in today's hike. We saw 56 bird species, a pretty darn good number of birds for this time of year. More waterfowl were coming through with 13 different species seen. We saw a good number of sparrows as well with 8 species counted including a Dark-eyed Junco which is the same genus as the other sparrows. A surprise visitor on Lake Huron near Horton's Point was a lone Snow Goose. Winter is coming and the winter birds are starting to show up with American Tree Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, Bufflehead, and Scaup being part of the winter visitors on their way.
Thanks James for leading us on a great outing and finding us this interesting array of birds. Also thanks to Ralph Knowles for helping James with the scouting for today's trip and Mary Anne Knowles for keeping the list of birds of for us.
The temperature was 14 C, generally cloudy with high winds.
