We had a great day today on a hike led by Margaret and Doug Pedwell. We came up with a good list of birds totalling 52 species, a good number for a fall day. Some of our winter birds showed up including Rough-legged Hawk and Dark-eyed Junco. The bird of the day was Sandhill Crane, The area that our leaders took us to was a staging area for them, and in various flocks, we saw about 200 of them. The raptor of the day was the NorthernHarrier which made a few appearances for us. The Ring-necked Duck was the most common waterfowl, and we were surprised by the good numbers of the American Coot we saw on Chesly Lake. Red-winged Black birds were gathering in huge numbers as well.
Thank you, Marilyn and Kiah for providing the eBird list for the day.
A special thank you to Margaret and Doug for a well organized hike, one that brought friends together, and one where we experienced a good socials time intermixed with bird watching of course. It was nice to see Norma Nanni get out with us again.
The weather was generally good with a few rain drops but for the most part comfortable. The temperatures was about 16 C. degrees. Winds were light.
If any of you have a the template bird list I sent out to a number of you, I would appreciate you sending me a copy. I lost mine with my old computer that crashed.
