Hi Everyone,
We owe a big thank you to a lot of people today. Eric and Steve did a great job of leading us today at the Mitchell lagoons, showing us the way to many great shorebirds. This was followed by the wonderful hospitality of Anne Melady for opening her house and providing us with coffee, tea and treats. The four people in our car, chuckled as we asked how many butter tarts did you eat? Apparently, with a little bit of guilt, we humorously, admitted to two each. Anne, they were really good!. Mary-Ann, thank you for looking after our species list today.
In the shorebird department, we found 12 species of birds including a Baird’s Sandpiper, Short-billed Dowitcher and Black-bellied Plover. the plover and Baird’s was our first of the year. By the end of the day we had 53 species of birds. An excellent total for this time of the year and considering we were focusing on shorebirds.
The temperature ranged between 21 and 27. The wind was about 20 K and helped with our comfort. Rain came at the end of our day as we travelled home.
