Thanks to Doug Pedwell, Tania Gilchrist and Pam and Bill Binnendyk for allowing us to view their feeders birds and get a good start on our bird list for the day . The Red-bellied woodpecker at Dougs, the Pine siskin at Tanias, and the Oregon junco at Pam and Bills were a great start to the day. We covered several kilometers (maybe MANY) in our quest for birds and for those in need of seeing a Snowy owl or two ......I doubt that they need to see another . Almost every road we traveled had a Snowy owl peering at us and a few even giving photographers some good opportunities. A social lunch hour at our place gave us all a chance to chat and enjoy some warm time out of the winter weather. A stop at Baie du Dore was special in that the wind had cleared out part of the bay and we managed to several species of ducks, gulls and also the odd Bald eagle . One of the highlights of the afternoon was the chance to compare two white second year gulls at the Kincardine landfill. A Glaucous and an Iceland gull sat nicely beside each other so we could compare each species and come to our final ID conclusion.
Speaking of Snowy owls.......did I say anything about them???? They were the most reliable bird of the day and in case any of you forget what they look like I got this quick snap of one near the 10th of Huron.
In total we managed to search out and view 42 species in the variety of places we visited.
