We had 18 people involved with the trip to Leamington for the OFO conference. We birded with the arranged OFO hike leaders and did some independent birding on our own as well. We had at least 5 cars involved and we did not all join in on the same field trips or independent birding outings, so the results shown below include the bird lists of 2 of the cars. It any of the others have additional birds to add, then please email me with the species not shown on the list below.
Thank you to both Alfred and James Turland for submitting their lists. James list was emailed to me in a PDF file and has the locations of where the birds were seen. The species listed below include both lists and because of the complexities involved of having 2 lists to work from, I have not listed individual locations for each species. James' PDF file has locations if anyone is interested. From the list submitted by James, I see my car missed out on some excellent birds that I would have liked to have seen at the Blenheim Sewage lagoons. The lagoons were locked when we arrived early. The birds were Red-necked Phalarope and Stilt Sandpiper. Also record numbers of Broad-winged Hawks (20,000?) were reported from Holiday Beach on Satruday and our group did not see one. Oh well, there is always next year. Meanwhile I will console myself with some great birds we did see.
At the banquet we enjoyed seeing one of our own, James Turland receive a prize for his great hospitality in the showing of the Painted Bunting that visited his feeders to the birders of Ontario. Congratulations James, you brought a great smile to our faces when you received your award and we were all proud of you.
Weather was mostly sunny with moderate winds and highs and lows varying between 11 and 21 Centigrade.
Next years OFO Conference is at Pres'quile Provincial Park on the weekend of September 16, 2012.
