I would like to thank James for leading today’s hike. He, in his enthusiastic and knowledgeable way, led us to see 62 species of birds. I would also like to thank Becky for sharing her home with us for lunch. I don’t know who gets all the credit for the soup,hot-cross buns, lemon squares, and refreshments, I suspect both of the hosts played a part in it. The food was delicious and the soup filled the bill for the cool day of birding we experienced. Thank you!
The brisk winds kept us cool, but the birds, and social interaction kept our minds off the weather most of the time. We were caught between the closing of the waterfowl migration and the early beginnings of the spring migration. The bird of the day was the Carolina Wren and the 62 species we saw just seemed to keep on coming.
The temperatures ranged between 2 and 5 C, while the brisk winds in the open areas, reminded us that winter had left it’s influence on spring. The skies were cloudy in the a.m., while the sun prevailed in the afternoon.
