YOUT 201 Personal Background and Perspective Forum
The student will write a brief introduction fulfilling the stated critera about his or her personal background, will provide any youth ministry experience (either as a teenager and/or an adult leader) and then provide his or her opinion on what is a healthy youth ministry. The Perspective component (opinion of a healthy youth ministry) should be at least 100 words.
YOUT 201 Discussion Board Forums (3)
Discussion boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will participate in 3 Discussion Board Forums. The purpose of the Discussion Board Forums is to generate interaction among the student and his or her classmates in regard to relevant and current course topics as based on the Student Work Text. The student will create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be at least 300 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student will reply to the threads of at least 2 classmates. Each reply must be at least 200 words and must include a full-sentence quotation from the thread that is being responded to.
YOUT 201 Cultural Observation Projects (2)
The student will complete 2 Cultural Observation Projects, each consisting of 2 parts. Each project only requires 1 observation and each observation must be at least 1 hour and 15 minutes.
YOUT 201 Location Abstracts (2)
The student will choose a well-attended, secular, and public teenage “hang-out spot” and will provide an abstract of at least 50 words explaining the reason for choosing this site. The student must obtain approval of his or her location choice from the instructor before completing the observation. The student may either choose the same location for each of the 2 observations or a different location for each observation. The student may go alone or with a small group of ministry-minded participants.
YOUT 201 Reports (2)
The student will write a 4-page (or longer) paper using the template provided within the Assignment Instructions folder, based on the approved observation location. The intention of the assignment is for the student to observe teenagers and discuss the effects of secular culture amongst these teenagers.
YOUT 201 Quizzes (6)
The student will complete 6 quizzes that focus on the basic points of each module/week as learned in the Student Ministry Essentials text. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 25 multiple-choice, true/false, and/or matching questions, and have a time limit of 40 minutes.
YOUT 201 Essays (2)
The student will complete 2 essays, each in correlation with the test assigned in the same module/week in which the essay is due. Each essay must be at least 100 words.
Tests (2)
The student will complete 2 tests that focus on the lessons of each module/week as learned in the Student Work Text and the assigned presentations. Each test will be open-book/open-notes, contain 50 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a time limit of 1 hour.
