ENGL 100 Discussion Board Forums (2)
Discussion boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. One Discussion Board Forum will be used as an opportunity for the student to introduce him/herself to the class, while the other will be used to gain feedback from classmates regarding the student’s Narrative Paragraph.
For the Narrative Paragraph – Peer Review, the student will submit a completed version of the Narrative Paragraph rough draft as a thread with a minimum of 200 words and will then respond to at least 2 other classmate’s thread giving constructive feedback. The reply must be 50–100 words.
ENGL 100 Narrative Paragraph
Prewriting
The student will work through and write a paragraph of at least 200 words narrating an important event in his/her life.
Final
The student will revise his/her prewriting assignment based on instructor feedback in order to create a final paragraph. The final paragraph must be at least 200 words.
ENGL 100 Descriptive/Definition Paragraph
Prewriting
The student will choose whether he/she wishes to write a descriptive paragraph that describes a person, place, or object or a definition paragraph that defines an abstract concept or idea in order to make a point. The chosen paragraph must be at least 200 words.
Final
The student will revise his/her prewriting assignment based on instructor feedback in order to create a final paragraph. The final paragraph must be at least 200 words.
ENGL 100 Illustration/Comparison Paragraph
Prewriting
The student will choose whether he/she wishes to write an illustration paragraph that explains the truth of a general observation about life, love, relationships, or a specific person’s behavior or a comparison paragraph that compares 2 similar or different topics in order to make a point. The chosen paragraph must be at least 200 words.
Final
The student will revise his/her prewriting assignment based on instructor feedback to create a final paragraph. The final paragraph must be at least 200 words.
ENGL 100 Classification Essay
Prewriting
Using an assigned topic, the student will write an essay of at least 400 words breaking down a subject into its particular components, types, kinds, or positions in order to make a particular point.
Write Experience
The student will submit a draft of their classification essay into the Write Experience program via the assignment link. Write Experience will provide feedback instantly for the student to review and apply to improve the draft prior to final submission.
Final
The student will revise his/her prewriting assignment based on instructor feedback to create a final essay. The final essay must be at least 400 words and consist of 5 paragraphs.
ENGL 100 Argument Essay
Prewriting
The student will write an essay of at least 400 words constructed to convince a specific audience of his/her chosen point regarding an assigned topic. The student must argue his/her point from a biblical perspective. The essay must include 5 paragraphs: an introduction paragraph, at least 3 well-developed supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.
Write Experience
The student will submit a draft of their argument essay into the Write Experience program via the assignment link. Write Experience will provide feedback instantly for the student to review and apply to improve the draft prior to final submission.

ENGL 100 MindTap Exercises
The MindTap Exercises assess the student’s mastery of each module/week’s assigned grammar concept. The student will complete each MindTap activity using Cengage’s MindTap.
ENGL 100 English Assessment
The English Assessment is a comprehensive test containing objective, multiple choice questions designed to assess the student’s mastery of concepts covered throughout the course relating to the different modes of writing (Narrative, Descriptive, Definition, Illustration, Comparison, Classification, and Argument) and the writing steps (planning, rough draft, revised draft, and edited draft), as well as questions relating to grammar and mechanics.
