RSCH 201Discussion Board Forums (5)
Discussion boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, students will reply to at least two classmate’s threads. For each Discussion Board, the initial thread must be at least 200 words and both replies must be at least 100 words. All posts must demonstrate correct, formal writing style. (MLO: A, B, D, E, F, and G; FSLO: CT 1, 2, 3, and 5; CIL 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5).
RSCH 201 Quizzes (6)
Weekly quizzes will cover material from both weekly textbook readings and weekly presentations within Course Content. Each quiz will: be open-book/open-notes; consist of 10-20 multiple-choice, true/false, short-answer and/or reading comprehension questions; and have a 1 hour time limit. Each quiz may only be taken once. (MLO: A, B, D, E, F, and G; FSLO: CT 1 and 3; CIL 1 and 4).
Article Analysis (3)
Article Analysis (3)
1st article (75pts):
Students will choose one article provided through Blackboard, then find, identify and summarize various parts of this week’s article using a series of prompted questions. The language and terms used in this assignment will be directly related to this week’s focus on the Sciences.
2nd article (125pts):
Students will choose one article provided through Blackboard, then find, identify and summarize various parts of this week’s article using a series of prompted questions. The language and terms used in this assignment will be directly related to this week’s focus on the Humanities. Now, students take the assignment one step further, by comparing (and contrasting) this week’s Humanities-centered article with last week’s Sciences article. Again, a series of prompts will be the guide.
3rd article (200pts):
Students will choose one article provided through Blackboard, then find, identify and summarize various parts of this week’s article using a series of prompted questions. The language and terms used in this assignment will be directly related to this week’s focus on the Creative Arts. Like last week, students take this assignment beyond the summary by comparing (and contrasting) 3 articles: this week’s (week 7) Creative Arts-centered article, week 6’s Humanities article AND week 5’s Sciences article. So, the last step asks students to synthesize the material… by comparing (and contrasting) the differing types of research, but also looking at which kind of research best suits each individual student in their own academic discipline. Again, prompted areas of questions/responses will guide students.
(MLO: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G; FSLO: CT, 1, 2, and 3; CIL 1, 2, 3, and 4).
RSCH 201 Pre- (25pts; graded as I/C) and Post-Assessments (100pts)
Assessments will consist of 20 multiple-choice questions and have a 45 minute time limit. Each assessment may only be taken once. Please note that this is a closed-book/closed-note exam. (MLO: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G; FSLO: CT 1, 2, and 3; CIL 3 and 4).
RSCH 201 Extra Credit – General Education Assessment Test
Students will complete a 28-question General Education Assessment Test that will be used to measure the values, knowledge, and skills they currently possess. Students will answer 4 or 5 questions that are drawn from each of the six key foundation skill areas upon which our general education curriculum is built (Civic & Global Engagement, Communication & Information Literacy, Christianity & Contexts, Critical Thinking, Social & Scientific Inquiry, and Technological Solutions and Quantitative Reasoning). No test preparation is required; no books or notes are necessary. Students are strongly encouraged to answer every question to the best of their ability. 1 extra credit point will be awarded for each correct response. Extra credit points earned will be automatically factored into students’ scores but will not alter total points possible for the course (1010).
