Post-intubation ventilator settings

Ventilation modes for emergency department trauma care

It is essential to calculate the ideal weight of the patient (all calculations of tidal volume must be done with the IDEAL WEIGHT and not the ACTUAL weight.

The IDEAL WEIGHT is calculated using the measured size of the patient and the patient's gender.

Enter the size of the patient here: _______________________ cm

Men: Ideal Body Weight (kg) = 50 + (0.91 x (height in cm - 152.4)) = __________________________

Women: Ideal Body Weight (kg) = 45.5 + (0.91 x (height in cm - 152.4)) = _________________________

NB: With the C2 fan Hamilton Medical, just simply measure the size of the patient and enter into the ventilator settings. The ventilator's computer will calculate the ideal weight according to the formula.a

NB: Remember that you can lower the to PEEP = 0 to 3 if the patient is hypovolemic and hypotensive to promote venous return pending the complete volume resuscitation.

Patient with normal lung compliance (these are the majority of intoxicated patients, isolated head trauma, coma)

Three possible modes

VAC: Volume Assist/ Controlled

Tidal volume (Vt) (suggestion 8-10 cc / kg): ______________

Frequency (suggestion 10-15/min): ______________

PEEP (suggestion: start and increase by 5 checklist to select the PEEP) ____________

FI02: _______________________

venous gas (arterial or capillary) to perform 30 minutes after the last parameter change

ASV Adaptive Support Ventilation

(Note: only available on the Hamilton Medical C2)

(Note: you do not need to prescribe a Vt or frequency for this mode, only a % of minute ventilation calculated according to the size measured by the respiratory therapist for the patient. ASV mode automatically ventilates patients between 6 and 8 cc / kg. For the % of MV, you can choose between 100% and 200%.)

Percentage of minute ventilation (% VM) (suggestion 100-120%): _____________________

PEEP (suggestion: start and increase by 5 checklist to select the PEEP): _____________

FI02: _______________________

venous gas (arterial or capillary) to 30 minutes after the last parameter change

SIMV: Synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation

tidal volume (Vt) (suggestion 8-10 cc / kg): __________________

Frequency (suggestion 10-15/min): ______________________

PEEP (suggestion: start and increase by 5 checklist to select the PEEP): ___________

Ventilatory support for spontaneous breaths (AI suggestion of 7-25 to target Vt 8-10 cc / kg): _______

FI02: _______________________

venous gas (arterial or capillary) to 30 minutes after the last parameter change

COPD patient / status asthmaticus
