3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
3:1 ᎢᎾᏛᏃ ᎤᏟ ᎠᏏᎾᏌᏂᏳ ᎨᏎᎢ, ᎡᏍᎦᏉ ᎾᏂᎥ ᎢᎾᎨ ᎠᏁᎯ ᏱᎰᏩ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ ᏧᏬᏢᏅᎯ. ᎯᎠᏃ ᏄᏪᏎᎴ ᎠᎨᏴ; ᎤᏙᎯᏳᎯᏍᎪ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ ᎯᎠ ᏄᏪᏒ? ᏞᏍᏗ ᏂᎦᏛ ᎠᏫᏒᏗᏱ ᏥᏕᏡᎦ ᎢᏍᏓᎵᏍᏓᏴᏔᏅᎩ.
3:1 i-na-dv-no u-tli a-si-na-sa-ni-yu ge-se-i, e-sga-quo na-ni-v i-na-ge a-ne-hi yi-ho-wa u-ne-la-nv-hi tsu-wo-tlv-nv-hi hi-a-no nu-we-se-le a-ge-yv; u-do-hi-yu-hi-sgo u-ne-la-nv-hi hi-a nu-we-sv tle-sdi ni-ga-dv a-wi-sv-di-yi tsi-de-tlu-ga i-sda-li-sda-yv-ta-nv-gi.
3:1 inadvno utli asinasaniyu gesei, esgaquo naniv inage anehi yihowa unelanvhi tsuwotlvnvhi hiano nuwesele ageyv; udohiyuhisgo unelanvhi hia nuwesv tlesdi nigadv awisvdiyi tsidetluga isdalisdayvtanvgi.
3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3:2 ᎠᎨᏴᏃ ᎯᎠ ᏄᏪᏎᎴ ᎢᎾᏛ; ᏰᎵᏉ ᎦᏲᎩᏂᎩᏍᏗ ᎤᏓᏔᏅᎯ ᎠᏫᏒᏗᏱ ᏥᏕᏡᎦ.
3:2 a-ge-yv-no hi-a nu-we-se-le i-na-dv; ye-li-quo ga-yo-gi-ni-gi-sdi u-da-ta-nv-hi a-wi-sv-di-yi tsi-de-tlu-ga
3:2 ageyvno hia nuwesele inadv; yeliquo gayoginigisdi udatanvhi awisvdiyi tsidetluga
3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
3:3 ᎾᏍᎩᏂ ᎤᏓᏔᏅᎯ ᎠᏫᏒᏗᏱ ᎠᏰᎵ ᏥᏡᎦ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ ᎯᎠ ᏃᎩᏂᏪᏎᎸ; ᏞᏍᏗ ᎢᏍᏓᎵᏍᏓᏴᏔᏅᎩ ᎠᎴ ᏞᏍᏗ ᎢᏍᏓᏒᏂᎸᎩ, ᏱᏕᏍᏗᏲᎱᎯ ᎾᏏ.
3:3 na-sgi-ni u-da-ta-nv-hi a-wi-sv-di-yi a-ye-li tsi-tlu-ga na-sgi u-ne-la-nv-hi hi-a no-gi-ni-we-se-lv; tle-sdi i-sda-li-sda-yv-ta-nv-gi a-le tle-sdi i-sda-sv-ni-lv-gi, yi-de-sdi-yo-hu-hi na-si
3:3 nasgini udatanvhi awisvdiyi ayeli tsitluga nasgi unelanvhi hia noginiweselv; tlesdi isdalisdayvtanvgi ale tlesdi isdasvnilvgi, yidesdiyohuhi nasi
3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
3:4 ᎠᎴ ᎢᎾᏛᏃ ᎯᎠ ᏄᏪᏎᎴ ᎠᎨᏴ; ᎥᏝ ᎤᏙᎯᏳᏒ ᏱᏙᎨᏍᏗᏲᎱᎯ;
3:4 a-le i-na-dv-no hi-a nu-we-se-le a-ge-yv; v-tla u-do-hi-yu-sv yi-do-ge-sdi-yo-hu-hi;
3:4 ale inadvno hia nuwesele ageyv; vtla udohiyusv yidogesdiyohuhi;
3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
3:5 ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯᏰᏃ ᎠᎦᏔᎭ ᎾᎯᏳ ᎢᎦ ᎢᏍᏓᎵᏍᏓᏴᏔᏅᎭ ᎿᏉ ᏗᏍᏗᎦᏙᎵ ᏙᏛᎵᏍᏚᎢᏏ, ᎠᎴ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ ᏄᏍᏛ ᎾᏍᎩᏯ ᏂᏍᏓᏍᏕᏍᏗ, ᎢᏍᏗᎦᏔᎮᏍᏗ ᎣᏍᏛ ᎠᎴ ᎤᏲᎢ.
3:5 u-ne-la-nv-hi-ye-no a-ga-ta-ha na-hi-yu i-ga i-sda-li-sda-yv-ta-nv-ha hna-quo di-sdi-ga-do-li do-dv-li-sdu-i-si, a-le u-ne-la-nv-hi nu-sdv na-sgi-ya ni-sda-sde-sdi, i-sdi-ga-ta-he-sdi o-sdv a-le u-yo-i
3:5 unelanvhiyeno agataha nahiyu iga isdalisdayvtanvha hnaquo disdigadoli dodvlisduisi, ale unelanvhi nusdv nasgiya nisdasdesdi, isdigatahesdi osdv ale uyoi
3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
3:6 ᎠᎴ ᎠᎨᏴᏃ ᎤᏙᎴᎰᏒ ᎾᏍᎩ ᏡᎬ ᎣᏏᏳ ᎠᎵᏍᏓᏴᏗ ᎨᏒᎢ, ᎠᎴ ᎤᏬᏚᎯᏳ ᎨᏒ ᏗᎧᏃᏗᏱ, ᎠᎴ ᎤᏚᎸᏗᏳ ᎨᏒ ᎥᎦᏔᎿᎢ ᎢᏳᏓᏛᏁᏗᏱ, ᎾᏍᎩ ᏡᎬ ᎤᏛ ᎤᏕᏎ ᎠᎴ ᎤᎨᎢ, ᎾᏍᏉᏃ ᎤᏁᎴ ᎤᏰᎯ, ᎾᏍᏉᏃ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎢᎤᎨᎢ.
3:6 a-le a-ge-yv-no u-do-le-ho-sv na-sgi tlu-gv o-si-yu a-li-sda-yv-di ge-sv-i, a-le u-wo-du-hi-yu ge-sv di-ka-no-di-yi, a-le u-du-lv-di-yu ge-sv v-ga-ta-hna-i i-yu-da-dv-ne-di-yi, na-sgi tlu-gv u-dv u-de-se a-le u-ge-i, na-squo-no u-ne-le u-ye-hi, na-squo-no na-sgi i-u-ge-i.
3:6 ale ageyvno udolehosv nasgi tlugv osiyu alisdayvdi gesvi, ale uwoduhiyu gesv dikanodiyi, ale udulvdiyu gesv vgatahnai iyudadvnediyi, nasgi tlugv udv udese ale ugei, nasquono unele uyehi, nasquono nasgi iugei.
3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
3:7 ᎠᎴ ᎢᏧᎳᏃ ᏗᏂᎦᏙᎵ ᏚᎵᏍᏚᎢᏎᎢ, ᎠᎴ ᎤᎾᏙᎴᎰᏎ ᏧᏂᏰᎸᎭ ᎨᏒᎢ; ᏒᎦᏔᏃ ᎢᏳᏍᏗ ᏧᎦᏄᏓᏛᏅᎯ ᏚᏂᏰᏫᏎᎢ, ᎠᎴ ᏧᎾᏞᏌᏙ ᏚᏃᏢᏁᎢ.
3:7 a-le i-tsu-la-no di-ni-ga-do-li du-li-sdu-i-se-i, a-le u-na-do-le-ho-se tsu-ni-ye-lv-ha ge-sv-i; sv-ga-ta-no i-yu-sdi tsu-ga-nu-da-dv-nv-hi du-ni-ye-wi-se-i, a-le tsu-na-tle-sa-do du-no-tlv-ne-i?
3:7 ale itsulano dinigadoli dulisduisei, ale unadolehose tsuniyelvha gesvi; svgatano iyusdi tsuganudadvnvhi duniyewisei, ale tsunatlesado dunotlvnei?
3:8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
3:8 ᎠᎴ ᎤᎾᏛᎦᏁᏃ ᎤᏃᏴᎬ ᏱᎰᏩ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ ᎡᏙᎲ ᎠᏫᏒᏗᏱ ᏧᏴᏠ ᎤᏒᎯᏰᏱ, ᎠᏓᏫᏃ ᎠᎴ ᎤᏓᎵᎢ ᎠᏫᏒᏗᏱ ᏕᏡᎬᎢ ᎤᎾᏗᏍᎦᎳᏁᎴ ᏱᎰᏩ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ.
3:8 a-le u-na-dv-ga-ne-no u-no-yv-gv yi-ho-wa u-ne-la-nv-hi e-do-hv a-wi-sv-di-yi tsu-yv-tlo u-sv-hi-ye-yi, a-da-wi-no a-le u-da-li-i a-wi-sv-di-yi de-tlu-gv-i u-na-di-sga-la-ne-le yi-ho-wa u-ne-la-nv-hi.
3:8 ale unadvganeno unoyvgv yihowa unelanvhi edohv awisvdiyi tsuyvtlo usvhiyeyi, adawino ale udalii awisvdiyi detlugvi unadisgalanele yihowa unelanvhi.
3:9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
3:9 ᎠᎴ ᎣᎰᏩᏃ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ ᏭᏯᏅᎮ ᎠᏓᏫ, ᎭᏢ ᎮᏙᎭ? ᎤᏬᏎᎴᎢ.
3:9 a-le o-ho-wa-no u-ne-la-nv-hi wu-ya-nv-he a-da-wi, ha-tlv he-do-ha u-wo-se-le-i.
3:9 ale ohowano unelanvhi wuyanvhe adawi, hatlv hedoha uwoselei.
3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
3:10 ᎠᎴ ᎯᎠᏃ ᏄᏪᏎᎢ; ᎠᏆᏛᎦᏅᎩ ᎤᏃᏴᎬ ᎮᏙᎲ ᎠᏫᏒᏗᏱ, ᎠᎴ ᏥᏍᎦᎢᎲᎩ, ᎠᎩᏰᎸᎭᏰᏃ ᎨᏒᎩ; ᎠᏆᏗᏍᎦᎳᏅᎩᏃ.
3:10 a-le hi-a-no nu-we-se-i; a-qua-dv-ga-nv-gi u-no-yv-gv he-do-hv a-wi-sv-di-yi, a-le tsi-sga-i-hv-gi, a-gi-ye-lv-ha-ye-no ge-sv-gi; a-qua-di-sga-la-nv-gi-no
3:10 ale hiano nuwesei; aquadvganvgi unoyvgv hedohv awisvdiyi, ale tsisgaihvgi, agiyelvhayeno gesvgi; aquadisgalanvgino
3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
3:11 ᎠᎴ ᎯᎠᏃ ᏄᏪᏎᎢ; ᎦᎪ ᎢᏣᏃᏁᎴ ᏣᏰᎸᎭ ᎨᏒᎢ? ᏥᎪ ᎢᏣᎬ ᎤᏓᏔᏅᎯ ᏡᎬᎢ, ᏞᏍᏗ ᏣᎬᎩ ᏥᎬᏲᏎᎸᎩ?
3:11 a-le hi-a-no nu-we-se-i; ga-go i-tsa-no-ne-le tsa-ye-lv-ha ge-sv-i. tsi-go i-tsa-gv u-da-ta-nv-hi tlu-gv-i, tle-sdi tsa-gv-gi tsi-gv-yo-se-lv-gi
3:11 ale hiano nuwesei; gago itsanonele tsayelvha gesvi. tsigo itsagv udatanvhi tlugvi, tlesdi tsagvgi tsigvyoselvgi
3:12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
3:12 ᎠᎴ ᎠᏍᎦᏯᏃ ᎯᎠ ᏄᏪᏎᎢ; ᎠᎨᏴ ᏥᏍᎩᎧᏁᎸᎩ ᎣᎩᏁᏓᏍᏗ, ᎾᏍᎩ ᎠᎩᏁᎸᎩ ᏡᎬ ᎤᏓᏔᏅᎯ, ᎠᎴ ᎠᎩᎬᎩ.
3:12 a-le a-sga-ya-no hi-a nu-we-se-i; a-ge-yv tsi-sgi-ka-ne-lv-gi o-gi-ne-da-sdi, na-sgi a-gi-ne-lv-gi tlu-gv u-da-ta-nv-hi, a-le a-gi-gv-gi
3:12 ale asgayano hia nuwesei; ageyv tsisgikanelvgi oginedasdi, nasgi aginelvgi tlugv udatanvhi, ale agigvgi
3:13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
3:13 ᎠᎴ ᏱᎰᏩᏃ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ ᎯᎠ ᏄᏪᏎᎴ ᎠᎨᏴ; ᎦᏙ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎯᎠ ᎢᏣᏛᏁᎸ? ᎠᎨᏴᏃ ᎯᎠ ᏄᏪᏎᎢ; ᎢᎾᏛ ᎠᎩᎶᏄᎮᎸᎩ, ᎾᏍᎩᏃ ᎠᎩᎬᎩ.
3:13 a-le yi-ho-wa-no u-ne-la-nv-hi hi-a nu-we-se-le a-ge-yv; ga-do na-sgi hi-a i-tsa-dv-ne-lv. a-ge-yv-no hi-a nu-we-se-i; i-na-dv a-gi-lo-nu-he-lv-gi, na-sgi-no a-gi-gv-gi
3:13 ale yihowano unelanvhi hia nuwesele ageyv; gado nasgi hia itsadvnelv. ageyvno hia nuwesei; inadv agilonuhelvgi, nasgino agigvgi
3:14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
3:14 ᎠᎴ ᏱᎰᏩᏃ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ ᎯᎠ ᏄᏪᏎᎴ ᎢᎾᏛ; ᎤᏟ ᎢᎦᎢ ᎡᏣᏍᎦᏨᎯ ᎡᏍᎦᏉ ᎾᏂᎥ ᏅᎩ-ᏗᏂᏅᏌᏗ ᎠᎴ ᎢᎾᎨ ᎠᏁᎯ, ᎾᏍᎩ ᏥᎿᏛᎦ ᏅᏓᎦᎵᏍᏙᏓ. ᎭᏓᎾᏏᏂᏙᎮᏍᏗ, ᎠᎴ ᎦᏓ ᎯᎩᏍᎨᏍᏗ ᏂᎪᎯᎸ ᎲᏅᎢ.
3:14 a-le yi-ho-wa-no u-ne-la-nv-hi hi-a nu-we-se-le i-na-dv; u-tli i-ga-i e-tsa-sga-tsv-hi e-sga-quo na-ni-v nv-gi-di-ni-nv-sa-di a-le i-na-ge a-ne-hi, na-sgi tsi-hna-dv-ga nv-da-ga-li-sdo--da. ha-da-na-si-ni-do-he-sdi, a-le ga-da hi-gi-sge-sdi ni-go-hi-lv hv-nv-i
3:14 ale yihowano unelanvhi hia nuwesele inadv; utli igai etsasgatsvhi esgaquo naniv nvgi-dininvsadi ale inage anehi, nasgi tsihnadvga nvdagalisdoda. hadanasinidohesdi, ale gada higisgesdi nigohilv hvnvi
3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
3:15 ᎠᎴ ᏗᏍᏓᏓᏍᎦᎩᏳ ᏅᏓᏍᏛᏴᏁᎵ ᏂᎯ ᎠᎴ ᎠᎨᏴ, ᎠᎴ ᏣᏁᏉᎥᎯ ᎠᎴ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎤᏁᏉᎥᎯ; ᎾᏍᎩ ᎯᏍᎪᎵ ᏓᏨᏂᎵ, ᏂᎯᏃ ᎦᏗᎨᏂ ᏘᏂᎵ.
3:15 a-le di-sda-da-sga-gi-yu nv-da-sdv-yv-ne-li ni-hi a-le a-ge-yv, a-le tsa-ne-quo-v-hi a-le na-sgi u-ne-quo-v-hi; na-sgi hi-sgo-li da-tsv-ni-li, ni-hi-no ga-di-ge-ni ti-ni-li.
3:15 ale disdadasgagiyu nvdasdvyvneli nihi ale ageyv, ale tsanequovhi ale nasgi unequovhi; nasgi hisgoli datsvnili, nihino gadigeni tinili.
3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
3:16 ᎯᎠᏃ ᏄᏪᏎᎴ ᎠᎨᏴ; ᎤᏣᏔᏅᎯ ᏓᎬᏁᏉᎡᎵ ᎡᎯᏍᏗ ᎨᏒ ᏴᏫ ᏕᎯᏁᏉᏍᎬᎢ; ᎡᎯᏍᏗ ᏣᏓᏅᏖᏍᏗ ᏗᏂᏲᎵ ᏕᎯᎾᏄᎪᏫᏍᎨᏍᏗ, ᎠᎴ ᏣᏰᎯ ᎯᏰᎳᏲᏍᎨᏍᏗ ᎠᎴ ᎾᏍᎩ ᏣᏁᏤᎵᏙᎯ ᎨᏎᏍᏗ.
3:16 hi-a-no nu-we-se-le a-ge-yv; u-tsa-ta-nv-hi da-gv-ne-quo-e-li e-hi-sdi ge-sv yv-wi de-hi-ne-quo-sgv-i; e-hi-sdi tsa-da-nv-te-sdi di-ni-yo-li de-hi-na-nu-go-wi-sge-sdi, a-le tsa-ye-hi hi-ye-la-yo-sge-sdi a-le na-sgi tsa-ne-tse-li-do-hi ge-se-sdi
3:16 hiano nuwesele ageyv; utsatanvhi dagvnequoeli ehisdi gesv yvwi dehinequosgvi; ehisdi tsadanvtesdi diniyoli dehinanugowisgesdi, ale tsayehi hiyelayosgesdi ale nasgi tsanetselidohi gesesdi
3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
3:17 ᎠᏓᏫᏃ ᎯᎠ ᏄᏪᏎᎴᎢ; ᎤᏓᎦᎵᏍᏙᏓ ᏣᏓᎵᎢ ᎧᏁᎬ ᏣᏛᏓᏍᏓ, ᎠᎴ ᏡᎬ ᎤᏓᏔᏅᎯ ᏥᎦ, ᏥᎬᏅᏍᏓᏕᎸᎩ, ᏞᏍᏗ ᏣᎬᎩ ᏥᎬᏲᏎᎸᎩ, ᎦᏙᎯ ᎠᏍᎦᏨᎯ ᏂᎦᎵᏍᏓ ᏂᎯ ᏅᏂᏌ; ᎤᏲ ᏣᏓᏅᏖᏍᏗ ᎾᎿ ᎤᏛᏒᎯ ᎯᎩᏍᎨᏍᏗ ᏂᎪᎯᎸ ᎲᏅᎢ.
3:17 a-da-wi-no hi-a nu-we-se-le-i; u-da-ga-li-sdo-da tsa-da-li-i ka-ne-gv tsa-dv-da-sda, a-le tlu-gv u-da-ta-nv-hi tsi-ga, tsi-gv-nv-sda-de-lv-gi, tle-sdi tsa-gv-gi tsi-gv-yo-se-lv-gi, ga-do-hi a-sga-tsv-hi ni-ga-li-sda ni-hi nv-ni-sa; u-yo tsa-da-nv-te-sdi na-hna u-dv-sv-hi hi-gi-sge-sdi ni-go-hi-lv hv-nv-i.
3:17 adawino hia nuweselei; udagalisdoda tsadalii kanegv tsadvdasda, ale tlugv udatanvhi tsiga, tsigvnvsdadelvgi, tlesdi tsagvgi tsigvyoselvgi, gadohi asgatsvhi nigalisda nihi nvnisa; uyo tsadanvtesdi nahna udvsvhi higisgesdi nigohilv hvnvi.
3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
3:18 ᎠᎴ ᎾᏍᏉ ᏥᏍᏚᏂᎩᏍᏗ ᎠᎴ ᏥᏥ ᏣᎵᏰᏁᎮᏍᏗ, ᏎᎸᏃ ᏠᎨᏏ ᎡᎯ ᎭᎵᏍᏓᏴᏗᏍᎨᏍᏗ.
3:18 a-le na-squo tsi-sdu-ni-gi-sdi a-le tsi-tsi tsa-li-ye-ne-he-sdi, se-lv-no tlo-ge-si e-hi ha-li-sda-yv-di-sge-sdi
3:18 ale nasquo tsisdunigisdi ale tsitsi tsaliyenehesdi, selvno tlogesi ehi halisdayvdisgesdi
3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

I often get asked about the suffix "-no". For an example, lets look at the name for Joseph, which in many places in Genesis shows up as ᏦᏩᏃ / Tsowano:
What is ᏦᏩᏃ (Tsowano)? Isn't Joseph just ᏦᏩ?
Many times you will see an "honorific" attached to a name in Cherokee writings. This honorific, the addition of a suffix "-Ꮓ" ["-no"] is important and you will hear it in stories.
It does not just get attached to nouns either. Sometimes, you will see it on other parts of speech.
[example: verse 3 ᏅᎦᏍᎪᎯᏃ nvgasgohino and verse 4 ᎿᏉᏃ hnaquono -- see how many others you can spot!]
You should know: although honorifics are not part of the basic grammar of the Cherokee language, they are a fundamental part of the sociolinguistics of Cherokee, and proper use is essential to proficient and appropriate speech. Significantly, referring to oneself using an honorific, or dropping an honorific when it is required, is a serious faux pas, in either case coming across as clumsy or arrogant.
