Layered Cardboard Animals

Objectives:

I can demonstrate the ability to create an animal in a relief sculpture

I can demonstrate the ability to determine how each layer will look

I can demonstrate the ability to determine how each layer will work with the previous and next layer to create my animal head

I can demonstrate the ability to cut my layers from cardboard and glue them in a way that creates my sculpture

I can demonstrate the ability to use paint and cardboard details to enhance the look of my animal


Vocabulary:

Additive process- when material is added or built up from the surface to create the finished result

Bas relief- another name for a low relief sculpture

Low-Relief Sculpture- a sculptural form where what is carved or added projects only slightly from the surface

Relief- a term used to describe sculpture that appears to be raised above the background plane, it cannot be viewed in the round (or from every angle) and is not freestanding

Sculpture- the art of making three-dimensional representative or abstract forms

Subtractive process- when you take part of the material away to reveal the final sculpture

Three-dimensional- having height, width, and depth
