Objectives:
I can demonstrate that I can use a ruler to divide my paper into various repeated spaces
I can identify a Barn Hex
I understand the history of a Barn Hex
I can add color carefully while repeating the pattern in radial symmetry
Vocabulary:
Barn Hex- a decorative tradition dating back to the early 1800s among Pennsylvania Dutch farmers
Radial Symmetry- a type of balance that rotates around a central point, it is repeated all the way around the central point
Repeated- when something (in this case an image) is created over and over again
Symmetry- a type of balance that is the same on both sides, it is a mirror image from one side of the symmetry line (axis line) to the other

Connecting:
Anchor Standard 11: Relate artistic ideas and work with societal, cultural, and historical contexts to deepen understanding.
Creating:
Standard 1: Students will apply the creative process to create works of art. This includes using tools (like rulers) to create symmetrical designs and patterns.
Connecting:
Standard 4: Students will understand and demonstrate how art connects to history and culture. This includes recognizing the significance of Barn Hex patterns in Pennsylvania Dutch culture.
Responding:
Standard 5: Students will analyze and interpret works of art, which aligns with understanding and discussing symmetry, radial patterns, and the historical context of Barn Hex designs.
Presenting:
Standard 3: Students will analyze and describe the visual characteristics of artworks. This would include discussing the elements of radial symmetry and repeated patterns in their creations.
