Objectives:

I can demonstrate the ability to create repeated patterns that reflect the cultural ideas behind the Kente Cloth

I can demonstrate the ability to recognize a Kente Cloth and understand its history and meaning

I can demonstrate the ability to weave using the over/under method

I can understand the meaning behind my color choices

I can demonstrate the ability to add contrast to my line designs that are added to my work

Vocabulary:

Design- repeating patterns to create an overall desired effect

Ghana- a country in Africa

Kente Cloth- handwoven cloth strips of cotton and silk; Kente means "basket" and refers to the basket type weave of the cloth; the designs and colors have special meaning significant to the wearer

Pattern- Repeating at least two elements such as lines, shapes, colors, forms, etc.

Repetition- Repeating something over and over again to create a pattern.

Warp- the piece that you weave into

Weft- what you weave with; what is woven into the warp

Weave- a method to interconnect two pieces of material, usually completed in an over/under pattern
