Objectives:
I can demonstrate the ability to create a Doric, Ionic, or Corinthian column
I can demonstrate that I understand the difference between the columns
I can demonstrate the ability to add value with white chalk on black paper
I can demonstrate an understanding of both highlights and shadows when adding value
Vocabulary:
Column- a form of architecture originating in Greece that uses a vertical mass that is used to support a building. While they all appear straight up and down from a distance in reality some of them tilt or lean slightly to support the weight of the building. There are three main types: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. This architectural form is still used today.
Corinthian column- the column that is most know for being the fanciest and most decorative
Doric column- the column that is the most plain
Ionic column- the column that is most famous for it's swirls
Highlights- an area within the work of art that is being touched by the light
Shadows- an area within the work of art that is not receiving as much light as it is being blocked by something else; many times it is being blocked by another part of the object itself
Value- an element of art that deals with the lightness and darkness
