Shaded Ribbons

Objectives:

I can demonstrate the ability to draw a ribbon in 3D

I can demonstrate the ability to use good composition to the fill my paper with ribbons

I can demonstrate the ability to add shading to enhance the look of depth within my drawing

I can demonstrate the ability to use blended shading to create my value changes

Vocabulary:

3D- having the three dimensions of height, width, and depth

Blended Shading- smooth gradations of color made by adjusting the pressure of the pencil; most often used with blending of those values by using a finger or a blending tool

Composition- the placement of the parts of the drawing; where you put things on your paper; making certain to use the entire space and not just fill one small area

Depth- how far back in space something goes

Value- the lightness or darkness of something

Video #1 How to draw the ribbon: # steps

Step 1: After filling the page with the ribbon, finish the ends

Sep 2: Erase the lines from the ribbon that is "below" in areas that overlap

Step 3: On the twisted areas, bridge the gap then erase one of the middle lines

Video #2 Close up of Step 3: Creating the twist

Video #3 Adding shading to your ribbons (Transition Blending- Dark to light slowly NO BIG JUMPS)

Step 1: Add light overall shading, you can create the overall shading a bit darker on the side farthest from the light source

Step 2: Shade the bottom ribbon on overlapping areas light to dark on BOTH sides of the above ribbon

Step 3: Shade the twisted areas, darkest in the hook of the back part of the ribbon slowly transitioning lighter as it gets farther away
