Optical illusion- Surrealism

Objectives:

I can demonstrate that I can create an optical illusion of a deep hole in the earth.

I can demonstrate an understanding of how to add shading to enhance my drawing

I can demonstrate an understanding of Surrealism.

I can demonstrate that I can add an environment that is appropriate to my idea

Vocabulary:

Environment- the area around your focal point

Focal Point- an area in a work of art that the artist wants the viewer to see first; this can be done through the use of size, color, placement, or leading lines among other things

Optical Illusion- Something that deceives the eye by appearing to be something that it is not

Shading- Showing value in a work of art to create a light source.  It shows how the light touches the objects 

Surrealism- an artistic movement in the 1920"s that strives to release the subconscious imagination; may take realistic images and put them together in illogical and unrealistic ways; Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, and Joan Miro are a few famous artists that worked in Surrealism

Watch this wonderful tutorial created by LethalChris Drawing on You Tube.  Complete your own version.  Mix it up a bit.  Use what you see to apply to your own creation then have some fun with it.  What is about to or has fallen into the hole?  How can you show something looking as if it is about to fall? Already fallen?  What would it look like if you were trying to catch your balance?
