Objectives:
I will demonstrate the ability to create my name in 2 pt perspective
I will demonstrate the ability to show my 2 pt. perspective in 3D as if it were a sculpture of my name
I will demonstrate how to add the look of space or distance within my work of art
I will demonstrate the ability to add a light source by adding shading to my sculpture drawing
I will demonstrate the ability to make certain that my name is focal point of this work of art
Vocabulary:
Depth- showing how far back in space an object goes, this is what makes it look 3D, the highlights and shadows help to create a sense of depth by showing how light affects the object
Focal Point- the area within the work of art that is the main point and should first catch the viewer's eye; it is usually toward the center and is larger than the other parts of the drawing, many times a bright color is used or a color that stands out because it is not used in other areas of the work of art
Highlights- Where the light source is touching the work of art, it is usually the part of the sculpture that is closest to the light, Highlights help to show depth within a work of art
Horizon Line- Eye level line that is the boundary between sky and ground.
Light Source- where the light is coming from within the work of art, this will create various highlights and shadows
Parallel Lines- Two lines that remain the same width apart forever. They will never touch.
Perspective Lines- Two lines that are heading to a single point on the horizon.
Shadows- The area of the sculpture that the light source is not touching. It is usually being blocked by another part of the sculpture and helps to show depth within the work of art.
Vanishing Point- The point on a horizon that which something that is growing increasingly small disappears when in perspective; this point allows you to see distance on a flat surface as everything disappears as it gets closer to that point showing how far away something is
2 Pt. Perspective- The ability to show two parallel lines as if they were going off in the distance. Two point shows both sides as if looking at a corner.
1 Pt. Perspective- The ability to show two parallel lines as if they were going off in the distance. One point shows a single point where all things would disappear on the horizon. Usually from a frontal view.

The following National and State Art Standards were covered in the unit:
Creating
Anchor Standard 1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
VA
.2.8: Develop criteria to guide making a work of art or design to meet an identified goal (creating a 2-point perspective drawing with a clear focal point).
Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.
VA
.1.8: Demonstrate persistence in developing skills with various materials, methods, and approaches in creating works of art or design (applying 2-point perspective, shading, and depth).
Anchor Standard 3: Refine and complete artistic work.
VA
.1.8: Apply relevant criteria to examine, reflect on, and plan revisions for a work of art or design in progress (assessing depth, shading, and perspective).
Presenting
Anchor Standard 6: Convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work.
VA
.1.8: Analyze how the presentation of art (focal point) influences how people perceive the work.
Responding
Anchor Standard 7: Perceive and analyze artistic work.
VA
.2.8: Compare and contrast contexts and media in which viewers encounter images that influence ideas, emotions, and actions (how depth and focal points affect perception).
Creating
C.8.1: Communicate ideas by producing and creating works of art and design.
C.8.3: Develop, refine, and reflect on ideas for media and techniques to solve complex visual problems (using 2-point perspective to solve spatial problems).
Presenting
P.8.3: Explain how the choice of materials, techniques, and methods in the presentation of an artwork impacts its meaning (e.g., shading and perspective techniques to enhance depth and focal point).
Responding
R.8.4: Analyze how visual characteristics like depth and focal points contribute to the aesthetic appeal or message of the work.
