Objectives:
I can demonstrate an understanding of one point perspective
I can demonstrate an ability to create 3D shapes in perspective
I can demonstrate an understanding of creating an opening within the shapes that I have created
I can demonstrate the ability to use overlapping, foreground, and background to create a continuous worm that travels through the shapes
Vocabulary:
Background- the area that is behind or off in the distance; discusses the spatial relationship within a work of art; the area that is partially covered by another area that is closer to the viewer
Continuous- something that "continues" on without interruption or breaking
Foreground- the area that is in front of another area; discusses the spatial relationship within a work of art; the area that partially covers another area because it is closer to the viewer
One Point Perspective- a method that creates a realistic sense of depth within a work of art where all perspective lines (lines that would be going back in space or into the depth) head toward one singular perspective (vanishing point)
Overlapping- something that goes in front of something else; when drawing the object/area in front partially covers the object/area behind it
Perspective- a technique used to create three-dimensional depth within a two-dimensional piece of work
Three-dimensional- having height, width, and depth
Vanishing point- a singular point on a horizon line where all perspective lines go to when creating a work of art; it creates a sense of space or depth within a work of art; also called a perspective point

The following National and State Art Standards were covered in the unit:
Creating:
Anchor Standard 1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work. (Students will explore ideas related to one-point perspective and create their own compositions.)
Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work. (Students will demonstrate the ability to arrange 3D shapes effectively in their artwork.)
Presenting:
Anchor Standard 5: Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation. (Students will apply techniques of perspective to present their artwork.)
Responding:
Anchor Standard 7: Perceive and analyze artistic work. (Students will analyze the use of perspective in their own and others’ artwork.)
Anchor Standard 8: Interpret intent and meaning in artistic work. (Students will reflect on their choices regarding depth and spatial relationships in their artwork.)
Connecting:
Anchor Standard 11: Relate artistic ideas and work with societal, cultural, and historical contexts to deepen understanding. (Students will explore the historical significance of perspective in art.)
Creating:
Standard 1: Students will apply the creative process to create works of art. (This includes understanding and applying techniques of one-point perspective.)
Connecting:
Standard 4: Students will understand and demonstrate how art connects to history and culture. (Students will explore the significance of perspective in various artistic traditions.)
Responding:
Standard 5: Students will analyze and interpret works of art. (Students will evaluate the effectiveness of perspective in their own work and that of others.)
Presenting:
Standard 3: Students will analyze and describe the visual characteristics of artworks. (Students will discuss elements such as foreground, background, and vanishing points in their compositions.)
