Scratchboard Design

Objectives:

I can show value through the use of lines and spacing

I can use various material to create my value

I can demonstrate good composition by making use of my entire space

I can create a radial symmetry design by drawing in one fourth of my space and transferring to the other three sides

Vocabulary:

Composition- the arrangements of the visual elements or the parts on the paper, where and how things are added to your project; making use of the entire paper by creating a close up of your animal

Radial Symmetry- Symmetry around a central axis. Not just the same on both sides like symmetry, but instead the same on all sides as it rotates around a central point

Scratchboard- is a form of direct engraving; the artist scratches off the dark ink covering tagboard to reveal white or color underneath it

Value- the lightness or darkness of a color; less lines are scratched out of the darker areas and more lines are scratched out to show that the area is lighter
