Objectives:
I can identify the Taj Mahal
I know the history of the Taj Mahal
I can create a symmetrical building in the style of the Taj Mahal
I can demonstrate an understanding on one point perspective
I can identify my vanishing point
I can demonstrate an understanding of foreground, middle ground, and background
Vocabulary:
Architecture- the art or science of building; you will find the Taj Mahal located in India
Balance- how the elements of art relate to each other to create visual weight within a work of art
One Point Perspective- A way to show the spatial relation of depth on a 2D paper. All perspective lines go to a single point
Symmetry- a type of balance that shows the same thing on both sides in a mirror image; they are perfectly balanced
Vanishing Point (Perspective Point)- the single point that all lines traveling back in space head to
Take a virtual tour of the Taj Mahal on the Google Arts and Culture site. Click here to be taken to their website.

.2.5: Recognize how the architectural design of the Taj Mahal demonstrates symmetry and balance.
Connecting:
Anchor Standard 11: Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical context to deepen understanding.
5th Grade VA
.1.5: Study the historical and cultural significance of the Taj Mahal as an example of architectural symmetry and balance.
Creating:
A.4.7: Develop an understanding of spatial depth and how perspective lines lead to a vanishing point in their artwork (one-point perspective).
A.4.2: Use symmetry and balance to organize and arrange their compositions in the style of the Taj Mahal.
Understanding Art in Context:
B.4.1: Understand the historical and cultural context of architectural works, including the Taj Mahal, and how these structures show balance and symmetry.
Critique and Respond:
D.4.1: Evaluate how effectively symmetry, perspective, and balance are used in their own work and the Taj Mahal.
