Objectives:

I can demonstrate an understanding of color theory; specifically primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.

I can demonstrate an understanding of how to mix both secondary and tertiary colors from only primary colors.

I can demonstrate an ability to successfully use a compass.

I can demonstrate an understanding of contrast between color and B&W patterns while creating a good composition that uses the entire paper well.

Vocabulary:

Compass- the tool used to create circles of an even radius

Composition- the arrangement of the visual elements; where you put things on your paper

Contrast- the balance between lights and darks or in this case between color and neutrals (black and white)

Primary- Three pigment color that are mixed to create all other colors.  Red, Yellow, and Blue

ROY G BIV- The name given to the colors and order of a rainbow.  This is a way to help remember the correct order. Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet

Secondary- Colors formed when mixing two primary colors together.  Orange, Green, and Violet

Tertiary- Colors formed when mixing a primary and a secondary color together.  That is why the color has two names (primary-secondary) such as yellow-green, yellow-orange, blue-green, blue-violet, red-violet, and red-orange.  The primary is always listed before the secondary color which is why you will always see primary-(hyphen)secondary.
