Objectives:
I will explore wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry methods to observe how watercolors behave in different contexts.
I can demonstrate an understanding of the visual impact of combining patterns and techniques
I can demonstrate an understanding of masking areas by using tape to preserve negative space and control where color is applied.
I will improve dexterity and control with Precise taping and cutting
I can demonstrate an understanding of weaving
I can demonstrate an understanding of the terms warp and weft
Vocabulary:
Contrast- The difference between two parts in a work, possibly the difference between colors or the painted and masked areas, as well as between the various watercolor techniques used
Masking- Using materials like tape to cover areas of the paper, preventing paint from reaching those sections, and creating clean, defined edges when removed.
Negative space- The areas of a composition that are left unpainted or untouched, often emphasizing the main subject. The areas that are around, behind, between, or within the main subject of your art work. The areas that are NOT the subject.
Warp- the piece that you weave into
Watercolors- pigment added to water to create a paint
Weaving- a method to interconnect two pieces of material, usually completed in an over/under pattern
Weft- what you weave with; what is woven into the warp
Wet on Dry- Adding watercolors onto dry paper to create a deeper color and more defined edges on a painting
Wet on Wet- Adding watercolors onto a wet paper to create a more lighter color with less defined edges
