Vocabulary:
Balance – visual stability in a composition
Composition – arrangement and organization of elements in an artwork
Contour – the outline/edge of a form
Contrast – differences in elements (light/dark, thick/thin, big/small) to create emphasis
Motif – a single design unit repeated to build a pattern
Negative Space – the empty space around and between shapes
Pattern – a repeated design unit (motif) that creates rhythm and unity
Repetition – using the same element multiple times to create unity
Silhouette – a solid outline or filled-in shape of an object
Zentangle – abstract, structured patterns drawn repetitively to create calm, focus, and visual interest
