Egyptian Name Portraits

Objectives:

I can demonstrate an understanding of how Egyptian portraits were created through the placement of my shoulders, head, and eyes

I can demonstrate an understanding of Heiroglyph designs

I can demonstrate an understanding of how to create my own name in Heiroglyphs

I can demonstrate the ability to fill my interior with my portrait and the frame with Heiroglyph designs

I can demonstrate an understanding of the vocabulary words through my application of them throughout my project

Vocabulary:

Cartouche- oval frame usually surrounded by a protective rope that protects the symbols or a person's name from evil spirits; usually created vertically but can be made horizontal

Frame- an area of equal distance that surrounds something else

Frontal view- looking at something from the front view; in an Egyptian portrait the head in is profile but the eyes and the shoulders are both seen from a frontal view

Hieroglyphics- symbols used to represent the sounds that make up a word

Horizontal- going side to side or across

Portrait- image of a person or animal

Profile- looking at something from the side view; in an Egyptian portrait we see the head in profile

Symbols- a recognizable image used to represent something else

Vertical- a line or image that going up and down or from the top to the bottom
