Layered Landscapes

Objectives:

I can demonstrate that I can create a five step value scale

I can create a monochromatic color scheme with at least one tint and one shade

I can demonstrate how atmospheric perspective creates a dark foreground and light background

Vocabulary:

Atmospheric Perspective- A technique in which an illusion of depth is created by painting more distant objects with less clarity and a lighter tone

Background- the area that is in the back, usually drawn higher in a landscape

Foreground- the area in the front; usually drawn at the bottom of the paper in a landscape

Hue- Another name for color

Monochromatic- one color with many values

Shades- a value created by adding black to a hue or color

Tints- a value created by adding white to a hue or color

Value- the lightness or darkness

Value Scale- creating a slow transition between white and black that involves 5 even steps
