Layered Values

I will demonstrate that I understand values and can create value transitions within my work

I will demonstrate that I understand how to layer my work to create depth

I will demonstrate that I can apply shading to my work to create a shadow

I will demonstrate that I understand the difference between blended shading, stippling, and cross-hatching

Blended shading- slowly transitioning from light to dark (or vice versa) and blending softly with your finger to smooth the transition out (the harder you press with the pencil the darker that area is)

Cross-hatching- drawing lines going in two or more different directions to create different values (the more lines that are layered on top of one another the darker the area looks)

Depth- how deep or how far back in space an object goes

Shadow- an area showing where the light source is being blocked by an object

Stippling- drawing small dots to create shading (the closer the dots are together the darker the area looks)

Transitions- slowly changing from one thing to another (in this case, your values)

Value- the lightness or darkness of a color

Exit Slip

Great project for practicing values. Complete lesson plan
