Objectives:
I will demonstrate the ability to create a composition that contains a bird as its focal point
I will demonstrate the ability to use and blend oil pastels to create the proper color for the birds
I will demonstrate the ability to draw a bird using basic shapes built upon one another to create the correct shape of the bird
I will demonstrate the ability to create an environment and background that is realistic to the bird that I have chosen to draw
I will demonstrate the ability to use overlapping to create a sense of space that includes foreground, middle ground, and background
Vocabulary:
Background- the area that is behind the subject, the bird should cover up part of the background
Composition- the arrangements of the elements drawn in this drawing; where you put things
Environment- where the subject is, what is around the bird
Focal Point- the area within the work of art that is the main focus of the work; usually toward the center and is larger than other objects within the work; in this case your bird
Foreground- the area that is in front of the subject, it should cover up part of the bird
Middle ground- the area that is not in front but not farther away either, in this case the middle ground will be your bird
Oil Pastels- a drawing medium used in art that comes in stick form and is a mixture of pigment and an oil base; it mixes well but smears easily
Overlapping- placing one thing in front of something else by covering up a bit of what is behind with what is in front
Space- an element of art that deals with the depth of a picture, how far back a picture looks as if it will go into the distance
