1876 The school was a one-room school. They eventually added a second room.
Date From two rooms, they added another two rooms. Then they added another building.
1885 There was a big frame building on Block 17 that faced north. It was moved to the corner of 10th and F Streets.
1889 The Ward School, built in 1889, in the west part of town was used until 1940.
1905 Dr. D. L. Smith divided the big frame building into three separate buildings after moving them to F Street
1905 The big brick building housed the elementary and the high school until 1965, when a new elementary school was built on 17th Street. Work began in May and the cost was $35,000.
1906 In February, they held a dedication for the building.
1921 The Smith-Hughes Building which housed Home Economics and Vocational Agriculture classes on the ground level was built south of the main building. The gymnasium was on the second floor.
1953 There was a fire in the Smith Hughes Building.
1955 A new gymnasium was built.
1965 A new elementary building was built at 225 No. 17th Street.
1976 A new high school building was built at 1410 L Street. The 1905 school building was demolished. Pioneer Manor was built on part of the block. Geneva Home Center and a storage building were built on another part of the block. Cornerstone Bank built on part of the block. The U. S. Consolidated Farm Services Agency built on another part of the block.
As of the last posting, the Smith Hughes building was being used for apartments.
As of the last posting, the 1955 gymnasium was still being used by the city and Fillmore Central Schools.

1913 St. Joseph’s Catholic School was in operation.
1949 Grace Lutheran school was just south of their church.
1974 St. Joseph’s Catholic School closed.
2019 Grace Lutheran school closed.
