During high school, he worked in Stub's Cafe at 936 G Street.
He graduated from high school in 1919 and attended Creighton University for three years.
In 1922, he purchased Bert Lynn's interest in the Meridian Cafe at 890 G Street.
In 1924, he purchased the remaining interest in the cafe from W. B. Hourigan.
In 1930, he moved to Omaha and entered the banking business.
He was a real estate appraiser for over 25 years.
He was the secretary treasurer and manager of the loan departmet at First Federal Savings and Loan for 11 years.
He then joined Union Loan and Savings, eventually serving as president.
