In 1874, C. D. and his wife and parents and siblings moved to Geneva. At this time, his residence was located at 102 North 8th. He and his father and brothers opened the first general store.
In 1877, C. D. began taking photographs.

Also in 1902, D. C. bought a photography car that he used to travel the area to take photos.
In 1905, C.D. and his family and son Otis and family and the Conwell family moved to Paonia, CO where they continued in the photography business.
