1876 About this time, according to information sent to the Nebraska Signal in 1957 from Burt Camp, J. H. Camp built an eight room hotel beside the photograph gallery. The following advertisement ran in the Fillmore County Review, July 26, 1876: “Eagle Hotel, Northwest Corner of the Square. This house sits good tables, furnished neat and clean beds and is presided over by an agreeable and accommodating landlord. In connection with this house has been established a Livery & Feed Stable. Horses and carriages always in readiness at most reasonable rates. Passengers carried to all points. J. H. Camp proprietor.”
1890 J. H. Camp residence was located here until 1909.
1890 Mrs. F. M. Brown and daughters, dressmakers, were found in the front rooms of the J. H. Camp residence (first door north of the photo gallery).
1904 James Camp and wife moved west along with other members of the Camp family. James died in 1934 and his wife died in 1920, both in San Diego, California. J. H. Camp sold this property to his nephew F. H. Camp.
1905 C. D. Volz opened a shoe shop in the J. H. Camp building, first door north of the photograph gallery. Repairing neatly and promptly done.
1910 Mary Held purchased this property from the Fred H. Camp. Her husband, Frank Held, ran a tailor shop. He had ready to wear as well as tailor made goods. He made repairs and did cleaning.
1917 In March F. B. Ashton purchased the property north of Ralston’s photographic gallery from Frank Held. Mr. Held moved his business to a building at 130 North 9th Street.
1917 The building was occupied by J. A. Smith’s Monument works which Ashton purchased earlier in the year. J. A. Smith’s office location was previously at 130 North 9th Street. It is unknown where he displayed his monuments.
1917 In May, F. B. Ashton removed the original structure used by Frank Held and replaced it with a brick building to be used by J. A. Smith’s monument works. He completed the walks and curbing in front of the new building. The driveway was made strong enough to hold any load.
1917 A car load of Wisconsin marble was received in October.
1919 An engraving of the Geneva Monument Works appeared in the Nebraska Signal. The designation on the building was Monuments Smith & Ashton.
1921 F. B. Ashton purchased the Ralston photograph studio building immediately to the south of his building. He combined the two brick buildings and utilized part of the complex as his private residence.
1929 Frank Ashton, Monument & Vault Works was listed in the phone book until 1939.
1940 Cora Ashton was listed in the phone book through 1945.
1952 Shaw and McEachran, Veterinarians, moved to this location from their office on the same block at 130 North 8th Street.
1957 The estate of Mrs. Frank (Cora) Ashton sold this property and Lot 17 to LeGrande Shaw who had it rented for his veterinary practice.
1962 W. F. Carter, veterinarian, purchased the building from LeGrande Shaw. Dr. Shaw moved to Minnesota.
1975 Dr. Carter moved his practice to a larger building at the corner of 14th and E Streets.
1976 H & R Block, George Brown, provided income tax service and made his home in the apartment.
1987 John Westfall purchased the property and resided here until 2018.
2018 John and wife Nina sold the property and moved to a another residence.
