DATE Frank Held tailor shop.

1908 J. C. Bender, Sunflower shoe agent, was located here. He built a new building between the Sheldon newsstand and Bentley Plumbing.

1909 The Sanborn maps showed a cobbler.

1912 J. C. Bender moved his shoe repair shop to Holbrook’s Shoe Store on Court Street.

1916 In February, W. S. Nicholas moved his undertaking rooms to the building just across the street from the post office.

1917 Frank Bentley used this as an office for his plumbing business.

1918 In September, W. S. Nicholas bought an undertaking business in Stanton and moved his family there.

1918 In September, Frank Crawford moved here from Fairbury to run a joint express agency for the two railroads--the American Railway Express Co. He had been in California, then returned to Beatrice to run an express agency there. He had then been moved to Fairbury and then here in Geneva. At the time, Jack Hill gathered and delivered express for the Burlington and F. M. Bradley did the same for the Northwestern.

1918 In October, Jack Hill did the collecting and delivering for the express agency.

1921 In August, the American Railway Express Co. closed up its downtown office and moved to the Burlington depot at 620 F Street. Agent Crawford and Driver Foster retained their positions.

1922 The Sanborn maps showed an office here.

1923 In January, J. C. Bender again moved his shoe repair shop into the building across from the post office formerly occupied by Frank Bentley as an office.

1926 J. C. Bender moved his shoe repair shop to 540 H Street.

1926 The Geneva State Bank constructed a new brick building that abutted the bank building.

1927 The Post Office moved here to what became 138 and 140 No. 9th Street from across the street at 139 No. 9th Street. This office was divided into two smaller offices, the south one being 138 No. 9th.

1940 A new government-owned post office building was built at 212 North 9th.

1941 The offices of the Iowa Nebraska Light & Power Co. were moved to 138 No. 9th from 834 G Street. The company had the local natural gas franchise.

1945 The Central Electric and Gas Co. purchased the system from Iowa Nebraska Light & Power Co.

1958 The Central Electric & Gas Co. moved to the 800 block on G Street.

1971 The medical offices of Drs. Ashby & Ashby moved the record storage files into this area.

2004 The Ashby Clinic moved to the medical clinic in the west wing of the Fillmore County Hospital at 13th and H Street.

2012 The building was demolished and the north end of a new building was the home of the new drive through banking facility, allowing it to have direct access to the bank and provide additional office space on the ground floor.

2014 The Geneva State Bank merged with the Bank of Roseland, and the name changed to Heartland Bank.
