1895 E. A. Schapers was granted a liquor license for this location.
1903 Elmer Waite moved his barbershop into the new room south of Bender’s.
1907 The barber shops entered into an agreement to remain open until 9 o'clock each weekday evening during the summer months except Saturday, when they remain open until midnight.
1909 The Sanborn map showed a barbershop here.
1909 Ben Walton had a barber shop here.
1921 Gerald Walton joined his father’s barber shop.
1922 The Sanborn map showed a barbershop here.
1926 The Geneva State Bank built a new brick building to the north of the bank.
1926 The Walton Barbershop moved to 122 No. 9th after the completion of the new brick addition.
1926 In December, the Geneva Radio Shop, Herbert Nichols, was here in the middle room of the post office building.
1927 J. Salzman had a shoe repair shop here in the room recently vacated by the Geneva Radio shop.
1932 Dr. J. Q. Adams, whose dental equipment was destroyed in the Masonic Temple fire, moved into this space.
1934 Dr. W. S. Musfelt, M.D. had an office here through 1938. He also had a practice in Ohiowa.
1935 Dr. Adams moved his dental office to the 1000 block on G Street.
1939 Eric’s Café, owned and operated by Eric Waltemade and his wife, Peggy, opened here. The café had a counter with seven stools and three booths. When the café was crowded, patrons in the booths were often asked whether they minded sharing their booth with another customer.
1940s-60s In Eric’s Café, the homemade pies were made by Mrs. Pearl Gordy and Mrs. Grace Stofer. Another specialty of the café was a dry malt.
1943 The Sanborn maps showed a restaurant here.
1971 Eric’s Café closed, and Eric and Peggy retired after 32 years in business.
1972 The Ashby Clinic expanded into this area.
2004 The Ashby Clinic moved to the medical clinic in the northwest corner of the new Fillmore County Hospital complex at 13th and H Streets.
2012 The entire building that was built in 1926 was demolished by the Geneva State Bank and replaced by new offices. They moved the drive through teller windows back to the main building to allow for direct connection to the bank and provide additional office space on the ground floor.
2014 The Geneva State Bank merged with the Bank of Roseland, and the name changed to Heartland Bank.
