Earl and Ann Jacox
Earl was born on Nov. 19, 1913 in Friend, NE to Clarence and Mary Jacox.
He died on Dec. 8, 2007 in Fairmont, NE. He is buried in the Geneva Cemetery.
He married Ann Sluka on March 31, 1943
Ann was born on Sept. 5, 1917 near Geneva, NE to Charlie and Theresa Sluka.
She died on Dec. 13, 1998 in Geneva, NE
They had one daughter, Bonnie.
Earl’s family moved from Friend to near Davenport during his school years.
Earl graduated from Davenport High School in 1933 and became a certified watchmaker in 1936.
Ann graduated from Geneva High School in 1934, later attending the University of Nebraska, earning a teaching certificate.
Ann returned to Fillmore County where she taught in rural schools.
After five years of teaching, Ann began working at Elder Jewelry (924 G), where she met Earl. He was hired as the jeweler after the death of Arthur Elder.
In 1948, Earl and Ann opened Jacox Jewelry at 824 G Street.
In 1953, Earl and Ann purchased Vogue Clothing. They moved to a larger building at 942 G Street, and Ann became the tailor for the clothing store.
In 1959, Earl and Ann started the first coin-operated laundromat in Geneva at 137 South 10th Street.
In 1959, Jacox Jewelry and Vogue Clothing was located at 954 G Street. While at this location, they opened first Credit Company in 1966
In 1968, Jacox Jewelry and Vogue Clothing was located at 858 G Street.
Ann was the bookkeeper for all their enterprises.
Earl was a 50-year member of the IOOF Lodge and took care of the courthouse clock for approximately 51 years.
