Born on Feb. 25, 1856 in Dubuque County, Iowa to Lebbens and Emily Fifield.
Died on July 25, 1911 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Married first wife, Annie Richardson on Sept. 3, 1878 and second wife in 1910.
He was educated at Iowa College.
In 1876, he was a land agent and attorney.
In 1880, the Geneva Exchange Bank was incorporated by Smith, Fisher, and Fifield. This was the first bank in Geneva and grew from the earlier Fifield business.
In 1889, the Geneva Exchange Bank was merged into the First National Bank.
In 1890, Fifield was one of the board members of the Geneva Iron and Windmill Co. which was the remodeled Geneva Foundry. Other members were John A. Dempster, W. H. Wooksey, A. O. Taylor, and E. J. Stone.
In January 1890, he purchased the Shickley Independent.
In 1890, he moved to Minneapolis to continue and expand his collection business.
