  • Edith married Alfred Hilton Elder May 31,1916 who she met at Hebron, Nebraska where she was in her first year of teaching

  • Alfred Elder was born November 16, 1891 in Hebron, Nebraska to Alfred L. and Clara Hilton Elder.

  • Mr. Elder died September 22 1942 at Geneva, Nebraska.

  • Alfred and Edith had one daughter who died in infancy.

  • In 1916 Alfred and his brother E. A. established The Elder Jewelry Co. in Hebron, Nebraska.

  • In 1918 they purchased the jewelry store of W. P. McCall at 924 G Street. In 1942, the firm owned and operated four jewelry stores at Hebron, Geneva, Deshler and Red Cloud.

  • Following the death of Mr. Elder in 1942, Mrs. Elder continued to operate the store until her retirement in 1977. Mr. and Mrs. Elder had owned and operated the store for 60 years. Jim Brumbaugh purchased Mrs. Elder’s interest in the business and continued to operate the business as Elder Jewelry.


  • The Elder’s were members of the United Methodist Church as well as many community organizations, PEO, Eastern Star, and O. K. Kensington. Mr. Elder was a member of the Geneva community band.
