Born Dec. 8, 1848 in Kinnikinnick, Ohio.
Died April 7, 1920 in St. Joseph, Missouri and buried in Geneva, Nebraska.
Married Mary Mayers on February 21, 1878.
Parents of one son, Frank.
In 1859, he moved with his parents to McLean County, Illinois.
For a number of years, he was deputy recorder of deeds in McLean County.
Prior to moving to Geneva, he ran a restaurant for a year and a half.
In 1890, he moved with his wife to Geneva to run a grocery store with his brother, W. R. Hitch.
In 1910, W. R. sold his interest in the business to L. O. Swails. Newton and L. O. Swails continued as partners until Newton's death.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Improved Order of red Men and Fraternal Aid Union.
