Dr. Joseph Bixby
Joseph Bixby was born to Joseph and Sarah Todd Bixby on June 27 1875 at Minonk, Woodford County, Illinois
Dr. Bixby died June 5, 1948 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois while he and his wife were attending the American Medical Association annual convention.
He was buried in the Geneva Cemetery, Geneva, Fillmore County, Nebraska
The Bixby family moved to Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska in 1883 where they lived a year before moving to Diller, Nebraska. Joseph and Sarah resided here until their deaths.
Joseph Jr. attended school in Diller, he later graduated from the Lincoln Business College and went on to complete his courses at the University of Nebraska in 1898.
Joseph went on to the Rush Medical College in Chicago and the University Medical School in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated in 1900.
Dr. Bixby opened his first practice in Strang, Nebraska in 1900. In 1903 he relocated his practice to Geneva where he actively practiced medicine and surgery until his death.
On September 15, 1917 he was married to Josephine Pangle at York, Nebraska.
Josephine was born September 22, 1891 in Fillmore County, daughter of Mordica and Rebecca Carpenter Pangle.
They were the parents of two sons, Joseph Jr. and John Richard.
Mrs. Josephine Bixby died July 3, 1925 at the age of 33y 9m 11d
Dr. Bixby married a second time to Edith Roby on November 26, 1937
Dr. Bixby had his office at 920 ½ G until 1942 when he moved his quarters to a ground floor location at 140 North 9th Street.
Dr. Bixby belonged to many fraternal organizations, helped to organize the Geneva Commercial Club, one of the members of the first Geneva Public Library commission, and several medical boards.
A member of the Congregational Church and served on the building committee that raised the money for the erection of the present building.
