Girls Training School
Later Named Youth Rehabilitation Training Center (YRTC)
1891 A separate institution for girls was built in Geneva. At first there were 20 girls. “Old Main” was built.
1915 An auditorium was built.
1915 The first graduation ceremony was held.
1918 The “Fanny Crosby Cottage” that housed 32 girls was built. This cottage was later used as a receiving cottage and later a boys’ cottage.
1957 “Old Main” was replaced by a new school building and administration building.
1959 Two new cottages housing 22 girls apiece were built.
1964 Three triplex apartments were built for employees.
2019 YRTC was temporarily closed for repairs. Girls were transferred to Lincoln and Kearney.
2020 LaFlesche Cottage was repaired and renovated and three girls returned to Geneva.
2020 By December, the YRTC was closed with all girls and boys going to Kearney.
2021 The buildings were used by a variety of Nebraska state offices.
2023 The property was purchased from the State of Nebraska by Max Sackscheskey from York.
2025 Plans were floated about possible uses for the buildings and land here.
