John graduated from Geneva High School in 1916 and later the University of Nebraska College of Law.
John practiced law in Chicago for two years until the death of his father.
He returned to Geneva to join the family business, A. Koehler Co.
John was on the city council, the Fillmore County fair board, and the cemetery board.
John was also a member of the Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, York Elks Lodge.
John served as an Ak-Sar-Ben ambassador and was a member of the Century Club of the University of Nebraska.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Geneva.
