Ann Sluka Jacox was born September 5, 1917 in Fillmore County to Charlie and Theresa Bures Sluka
Ann died December 13, 1998 at Geneva, Nebraska

They were the parents of one daughter
Earl graduated from Davenport high school and later became a certified watchmaker
Ann graduated from GHS in 1934 and continued her education at the University of Nebraska where she received a teaching certificate.
In 1942 Earl was hired by the Elder Jewelry Co. to repair watches, clean, reset and repair jewelry.
Ann taught several years before taking a job at Elder Jewelry Co.
While Earl was employed at Elder Jewelry, he met Ann Sluka who was also an employee of Mr. and Mrs. Elder’s. They were married March 31, 1943.
In 1948, Earl and Ann started their own business Jacox Jewelry at 824 G Street.
In 1953, Mr. and Mrs. Jacox purchased the Vogue Clothing store at 942 G and moved their jewelry store to that location and operated both businesses in conjunction. Ann’s duties included doing the tailor work for the clothing department.
Jacox Jewelry/Vogue Clothing relocated to 954 G in 1959.
After being at the same location for almost 10 years, Earl and Ann moved their jewelry and clothing store to the west block at 858/860 G Street.
In 1993, Mr. and Mrs. Jacox sold their stock of clothing, but continued to operate the watch and clock repair business.
During this time the Jacox’s had other business ventures. They also had a coin operated laundry business at 137 South 10th Street and First Credit Company was located at 954 G along with their jewelry and clothing store.
For over 50 years, Earl volunteered his time and knowledge to keep the Fillmore County courthouse clock ticking.
Earl continued working after Ann’s death in 1998. He retired from his labors in March 2007 and passed away the following December.
