Settled in Illinois with his family when he was fourteen.
Enrolled in the 146th Illinois Infantry when he was seventeen.
In the battle of Arkansas Pass, Jan. 11, 1863, he was wounded and laid up for a year.
Enlisted in the Sixth Missouri Infantry and fought at Chickasaw, Chattanooga and Vicksburg.
At Abraham Lincoln’s burial, one of the special guards of honor over the President’s body.
Homesteaded near Milford in 1868
Came to Fillmore County in 1873, settling in Fairmont.
After studying law, was admitted to the bar in 1878.
Was the Fillmore Co attorney from 1894 to 1898.
President of the Fillmore County Bar Association for many years.
Charter member of the Fairmont Masonic Lodge.
Was a noted vocalist along with two other former Leicester boys, F. B. and Sid Donisthorpe.
