  • Parents of Josie and Guy.

  • As a boy, worked in the spring, summer and fall, getting what schooling he could get in the remaining three months.

  • At sixteen, when President Lincoln called for volunteers, the quota for Illinois was filled so he crossed into Missouri and enlisted in the 18th Missouri Volunteer infantry. He served for over three years at Shiloh, Corinth, and then Sherman’s march. At Resaca, GA he was wounded in the hip and leg. After three months in the hospital, he was mustered out a cripple.

  • He served as a county judge in Geneva and then had law offices from 1882 to 1889 at 892 ½/896 ½ G, 872 G, 824 G, and 966 ½ G.

  • In 1887, he bought a partnership in a grocery at 926 G.
