At age 9, he moved with his parents to Wisconsin, and then to Iowa.
He served as a Corporal with Co. C of the 18th WI Infantry during the Civil War
He moved to Geneva about 1884 when he opened a dry goods store at 836 G Street.
In 1885, he moved his dry goods to 830 G Street.
Due to his illness, he sold his stock in 1888 and was confined to his home most of his last three years.
