1872 Vacant Lot

1879 G. W. Smith and W. V. Fifield bought Lot 77 from the State of Nebraska. They later sold the East ½ of Lot 77 to Lizzie Miller.

1879 G. W. Smith sold the West ½ of Lot 77 to W. V. Fifield.

DATE Fifield sold the property to Joseph Fisher, who sold it to Joseph Fisher, who sold it to J. A. Bowdle who sold it to A. O. Taylor, who sold it to Schofield.

1883 Mr. A. O. Taylor built an office on his lot west of the Geneva Exchange Bank. He sold insurance and made loans.

1888 A new bank was started, known as Bank of Geneva, with A. O. Taylor, president; and W. H. Jameson, cashier.

1889 A. O. Taylor and Robert Schofield built a two story brick building on Lot 77. Taylor owned the west half of the lot and Schofield owned the east half.

1889 In November, the Bank of Geneva moved into their new building. The front room was used for banking. The rear of the building was divided into four rooms.

1889 Billings and Billings, attorneys, had an office over the Bank of Geneva.

1891 The Geneva National Bank began business January 1 with a paid up capital of $60,000. The following officers were elected: J. A. Dempster, president; T. S. Francis, vice-president; A. O. Taylor, cashier and E. J. Dempster, assistant cashier.

1891 The South Platte Land and Loan Company was located over the Geneva National Bank.

1891 In June, Billings and Billings moved to the Kessler building at 131 No. 9th.

1892 The Sanborn Map showed a bank here.

1893 Mrs. Landmesser and Miss Combs opened a dressmaking establishment on the second floor of the Geneva National Bank building.

1893 The Geneva National Bank was located at 858 G Street.

1894 In February, the Fillmore County Abstract Company moved their offices to rooms over the old Geneva National Bank room.

1894 In April this was a two-story brick building occupied by Byron Mershon’s grocery store. It burned in the April 1894 fire. Mershon moved to the Geneva State Bank building.

1895 Spear moved his stock of hardware, stoves, tinware, and harness into the old Geneva National bank building.

1897 The Sanborn Map showed a hardware store here.

1898 Floyd Sandage moved his restaurant to rooms under the Geneva National Bank after the fire at 996 G Street.

1898 In September H. D. McManus bought a half interest in the restaurant operated by Floyd Sandage. The business was then referred to as Sandage & McManus or Sandage & Co.

1899 In April, D. C. Mowry rented the room formerly occupied by Sandage as a restaurant. He conducted a general plumbing shop here. He carried a stock of bath fixtures, pipes, fittings and parts for general repairs. David Mowry also had the business of billposting and distributing over ten locations in the county.

1902 In August, the Sanborn Map showed a hardware store here.

1902 In September, P. K. Gregg rented rooms over Spear’s Hardware and opened a cigar factory.

1904 In January, T. C. Patterson and George Hess bought the cigar factory of P. K. Gregg. They had to hold off production until the deputy revenue collector arrived to approve the transfer.

1904 In November, T. C. Patterson sold his interest in the cigar factory to his partner, George Hess. Patterson was arranging to open a factory in Fairmont in the Davis block. Hess moved to 812 G.

1906 W. L. Spear built an addition to their building. They made it two full stories and added a basement. Their ground floor space was 2176 square feet, the second floor and basement were each 2,640 square feet. They also had a warehouse on the second lot west of their main building. They installed an elevator to give them easy access to all three floors. It was an immense establishment with a rather narrow frontage.

1907 Dr. Beck moved his offices from over the Spear Hardware to rooms in the Geneva State Bank building.

1907 In August, Dr. Bates moved his office to this location from his old quarters over the Signal at 131 ½ N 9th Street.

1909 The Sanborn Map showed a hardware store to the south, with a tin shop to the north, and a warehouse to the alley.

1910 Dr. Bates had an office here.

1914 Dr. Bates moved his office to the Geneva State Bank building at 896 ½ G Street.

1922 The Sanborn Map showed a hardware store to the south, with a tin shop to the north, and a warehouse to the alley.

1926 Drs. A. T. Johnson and N. L. Niblack opened a chiropractic office over the Spear Hardware store. Dr. Niblack took over the practice of Dr. Johnson. Dr. Niblack leased the J. C. Bortner property east of the Jayne Hotel. (1026 G Street)

1933 The Sanborn Map showed a store to the south, with a tin shop to the north, and a warehouse to the alley

1937 In August, Spear Hardware had a close-out sale.

1938 Leslie Pool moved his cafe from the west side of the square into the building formerly occupied by the Spear Hardware store. Leslie Pool applied for a liquor license for Pool’s Cafe.

1938 The Sanborn Map showed a restaurant here with a warehouse near the alley.

1944 In August, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Blanke and Miss Lula Blanke purchased the cafe that had been operated by Leslie Pool.

1949 Henry and Fern Blanke moved the Blanke Tavern to 806 G Street.

1949 Leo Rush applied for a liquor license here.

1949 Earl Wilkins, guardian for Fred Picard, Sr., entered into an agreement to lease the building to Coast to Coast for three years instead of Leo Rush.

1949 Coast to Coast, owned by F. A. Martin moved his business here from 806 G Street as a result of an agreement with Henry Blanke who owned Blanke’s Tavern.

1956 In September, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sherman purchased the Coast to Coast from Frank Martin.

1963 In April, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Scarlett of Fullerton purchased the business.

1966 Coast-to-Coast, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Scarlett proprietors, moved their store to 1004 G Street. Coast to Coast erected a

1967 Western Power and Gas Company moved here from 860 G Street.

1975 Cengas was located here.

1983 Minnegasco, Inc. was located here.

1994 People’s Natural Gas was located here.

1996 Tabitha Home Health Care Services was located here.

2005 Tabitha Home Health Care Services left Geneva and was headquartered in York.

2005 The building was vacant.

2018 Waddell and Reed, Tyler Williams, moved here from 145 So. 10th.
