As an infant, Paul returned with his family to Exeter, where his father became active in the funeral business.
Paul graduated from Exeter High School in 1931.
Paul attended the University of Nebraska and Denver University.
Paul graduated from the Kansas City College of Mortuary Science. He first worked with his brother, Burton, and his mother at Exeter.
After a short time in Central City with Les Solt, he returned to Exeter to operate the business for his mother.
He was called to active duty during World War II, where he served in the European Theater for four years.
Paul and Mildred were married on December 1, 1941. While Paul was still in the service, Mildred continued to operate her dress store, the Miller Style Shoppe.
When Paul returned from the war, Mildred sold her dress shop to Pat Cumberland. Paul purchased the Thrifty Home and Auto at 974 G Street.
In 1948, Paul bought the funeral business of Frank Hrubesky at 242 No. 10th Street.
Paul operated both businesses until 1953.
In 1957, Robert Kritner and Paul formed a partnership of Kritner-Farmer Funeral Home.
In 1971, Paul formed a partnership with Charles Harris of Farmer-Harris Funeral Home
In 1974, Charles sold his share to P. R. Farmer and the business became Farmer and Son Funeral Home.
In 1978, Paul purchased the funeral business that had been run by his brother, Burton, in Exeter.
Paul was active in numerous community organizations and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was especially active in the original golf course built around the fairgrounds and the building of the new Hidden Hills Country Club.
He was honored by the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association for his many years of service.
