12/6 - 12/21: Optimization

We're wrapping up our study of derivatives to apply them in practical situations involving optimization of a quantity.

Thursday, 12/6 - we introduced the idea of optimization with a series of problems where we can guess and check the answer to be true. Here are the slides from class. You should work on your Math Exploration for HW.

Friday, 12/7 - we used a formal process of applying the derivative to optimization problems. Here are the slides from class and here is the process of optimization and the problems from class. Your HW is Ex 11.3 #22; Ex 13.5 #3; Ex 13.5 #24.

Monday, 12/10 - we applied the process of optimization to several geometric problems. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is to work on your Math Exploration. If you'd like to practice more optimization problems, you can try Exercise 13.4 #2, 4.

Tuesday, 12/11 - we applied the process of optimization to more difficult geometric problems. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is to work on your Math Exploration. If you'd like to practice more optimization problems, you can try Exercise 13.5 #29; Ch. 13 Practice Questions #17.

Wednesday, 12/12 - we applied the process of optimization to more difficult geometric problems. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is to work on your Math Exploration. If you'd like to practice more optimization problems, you can try Exercise 13.4 #5, 7.

Thursday, 12/13 - we applied the process of optimization to geometry problems on the coordinate grid. Here are the slides from class. Your HW is to work on your Math Exploration. If you'd like to practice more optimization problems, you can try Exercise 13.5 #22 ,26.

Friday, 12/14 - we did practice problems involving optimization problems.

Monday, 12/17 & Tuesday, 12/18, & Thursday, 12/20 - we took time in class to work on our Math Explorations. A near-complete draft of your Math Exploration should be uploaded to ManageBac and is due by 10PM on Thursday, 12/20, unless you've made arrangements with Mr. Lao.

Wednesday, 12/21 - you have your exam on solving optimization problems.

Friday, 12/21 - you have your "Winter in the City" field trip. Have fun!

Saturday, 12/22 - Tuesday, 1/1/2019 - it's our Winter Recess. I hope you rest and enjoy the time with family and friends. Good luck on your regular decision college applications! We come back to school on Wednesday, January 2nd.
