Welcome back to school!

On this page, you will find resources for our class, IB Math HL Year One for juniors. Please bookmark this site for future reference.

Here is a link to the class syllabus for the year that gives you information about the course as well as class norms and expectations.

This week, we're getting acquainted with IB Math in general and with this course specifically.

Wednesday, 9/5 - First Day of School - We did introductions and looked at the course syllabus. Here are the slides from our first day. Your HW for tonight is

  • Familiarize yourself with Mr. Lao's website (DONE)
  • Bookmark Mr. Lao's website
  • Read the syllabus
  • Gather materials
    • something in which to take notes
    • something in which to hold class handouts
    • something with which to take notes
    • a small stash of graph paper
    • a GDC ("graphing display calculator")
  • Find your summer assignment and bring it in on Friday
  • Complete these IB problems that you received.


Thursday, 9/6 - we familiarized ourselves with makes IB Math HL special, and different from previous math classes you have taken. We reviewed function composition and reviewed your HW problems in order to learn about how IB Math problems are scored and also what some of the differences are between SL and HL Math.
