We summarized the four methods of solving quadratics today. Below you will find a lot of information about your homework and what to expect next week. Read carefully and feel free to email me with any questions.

Here are the marked slides from class.

HW for the weekend:

  1. Delta Math due Monday at 8AM
  2. Study for a short quiz on Monday on completing the square and the quadratic formula.
  3. Read the chapter "Working Your Quads" from The Joy of X and answer the questions at the end.
  4. Mentally prepare yourself for TBLS Math Expositions (ie Expos, or in other words, math presentations) on Monday.
    • Here is the TBLS Math Expo Rubric. Look it over and ask my any questions!
    • Here is the solving quadratics graphic organizer we will use to solve the problems for Expos. Your table will get a problem, you will solve it in two ways from the graphic organizer, and your presentation will consist of those two methods.

Extra Practice:

Make sure you always simplify any radicals you may have! Because Delta Math is light on practice, if you would like more practice:

  • Here are the walking/jogging/running problems from class about completing the square, and here are the answers to those problems (I didn't show my work).
  • Here is the worksheet from class about the Quadratic Formula. You can solve it two (or three, or four) ways to see if you get the same answer every time.
  • You can also try problems from the textbook, in Chapter 5. Be advised that there may be some kinds of quadratic equations in the book that we have yet to learn to solve, involving negative numbers underneath the square root. You can ignore these for now. Remember - the solutions to the odd problems in the textbook are in the back!
